As far as the east is from the west . . ..

So here is another example of "forces" crossed . . . .

quote: "I have been wondering about the influence of the Roman ideology on the Christian traditions and thoughts we now practice (mostly in the west and those countries which have been influenced by the west)."
======================================================================

Sadly the east is a far as the west when it comes to being almost totally saturated in the thoughts/actions of the Roman/Greek culture than we can even imagine.

Here's an few examples comparing the two cultures:

Greek (West)

honor the youth
celebrate a persons birth
worship on Sunday
midnight begins new day
glory in sitting high
keep pagan feasts
bless the food
prayer before eating
use sun calendar
Don't keep Torah
celebrate the resurrection (Easter)
eat unclean foods
prayer with heads down
books open to the left
read/write from left to right
hats off to show respect

Hebrew (EAST)

honor the elderly
celebrate a persons death (what they've done in life)
worship on the Sabbath
new day begins at 6:00 the night before
glory in sitting low
keep YAHWEH'S feasts/Sabbaths
bless YAHWEH (not food)
prayer after eating
use lunar calendar
DO keep Torah
celebrate the death (Passover)
Eat only clean foods
prayer looking up to YAHWEH
books open to the right
read/write from right to left
hats on to show respect

"As far as the east is from the west..." in more ways than one!!

Shalom!!
(I got this off the Biblical Holidays board, from Selah)
